Chinese new year is a festival which is celebrated in the beginning of the year of Chinese calendar. In new year 2020 the new year celebration will start from 25th January unlike other countries. There are many interesting myths and facts of Chinese new year that you don't know. 

1. The Chinese new year is specially connected with the monster Ni`an. Ni`an was a monster that lived in the depth of sea in the ancient times. It came out on new year and hunts human and animals. So the villagers came to the hills in the new year times. Once a beggar came and he was seeking shelter from the villagers. But nobody gave him shelter except a old woman. The beggar promised her that he would safe her from the monster Ni`an. He helped the woman decorating her house.

At midnight the monster Ni`an came. When he saw the door away was decorating with red papers it became angry. Suddenly fire crackers started. When it saw the beggar wearing a red cloth began to ran away. Then villagers came and they understand how they can beat Ni`an. So the Chinese people decorate the door away with red papers and they wear red clothes. At midnight they burn fire crackers. 

2. On Chinese new year the Chinese people also decorate their door away with Fu. The common word Fu means happiness and fortune. The Ming Dynasty, the Emperor ordered every households to decorate pasting Fu on their doors. He sent soldiers in new year day to check that. One family pasted Upside down on their doors. To see it the emperor became very angry and he punished them death.

But the empress was there and he explained that 'upside down' means the fu is in the upside down. Thus the emperor leave the family. So people hang the word upside down for both fortune and to give respect the kind empress. 

3. The Chinese people hang couplet poems in the door frame. They don't protect them-self only from the Ni`an but also Demons. Demons are evil spirit who wondered at the human world looking for trouble in night. They have to come back at dawn. Two gods guard the entrance under a giant peach tree. The demon who harm the human they seized them. So the people hang red papers on the  door frame to protect them from demons.

4. There are some specific drink for Chinese new year. One of this is Tusu wine. 

There was a plague going through villages taking many lives.  A man put some herbs, leaves and grains into bag. He bought one to each of his neighbors telling them the bag has shocked in water. The water they have to drink in new year. They found that the water saved life from the plague. After that people drink this wine named Tusu drink.

5. In Chinese new year the parents give money to their children covered in a red envelope under the pillow. This act has also a story. 

Once there was an evil spirit named Shy. It came to new year night and pat the heads of the sleeping children three times. Then children have high fever. If they recover they would never be like before again. 

One day a parent give their child some money rapped in a red envelop when the child was sleeping and they put it under the pillow. When shy came he show the red envelop and he went out.
